Graphite Drawing Examples

My graphite art is where detail and discipline meet creativity. Each work is meticulously crafted to render not only a likeness, but the deeper soul of the subject, whether it be a cultural icon, an historical moment, or your personal family portrait. I am a contemporary artist working in graphite and oil paints, I saw how idealism and realism can give rise to eternal brilliance through the lens of simplicity and accuracy. These are the drawings that lay the groundwork for my art practice and represent my unwavering belief that art is not confined to space, but can infiltrate, inspire and commune through place.  Customers will receive work that is detailed, expressive, and communicates a sense of authenticity and legacy, with an equal commitment to craft in all mediums.

1st Commission: Cover Art for EAAM

The first work I ever did as an artist and business person was the cover for the Evansville African American Museum’s Bicentennial Book. I drew nine pictures by hand for this one, six made it in the bookmag. I then touched them up and manipulated them on the computer with Photoshop — my first professional use of digital tools and my first foray into mixing traditional and digital art in the same piece. This commission was a milestone for me professionally and artistically, allowing me to pay tribute to history while breaking new ground as an artist. It laid the groundwork for how I work on projects today.

The Great Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King

When I say The Great Dr. I'm thinking of one of two people. That’s Alfredo Bowmen ie Dr. Sebi, or The Great MLK. This is a graphite portrait of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.. This was intended to be both a detail study and a tribute to one of the greatest leaders of our era. Using the finesse of graphite, I tried to portray the power in his stare and the quiet certainty that became his life’s work. To me, this image is so much more than the representation of a man. It’s a reminder of the dream he held, the sacrifices he made, and the motivation he gives the world, generation after generation. The work functions as a tribute and meditation, celebrating Dr. King’s transformative influence through the ever-powerful and evocative lens of art.

Kobe & Gigi

This graphite drawing of Kobe bryant and his daughter Gianna (GiGi) is one of the most heartfelt pieces i've ever created to honor their legacy in the wake of their tragic passing. Drawn with subtle precision and feeling, the artwork shows not only their physical appearances but also the father/daughter relationship. In that way it’s more than just a portrait—it's a homage to family, determination, and the hope that Kobe and GiGi inspired in the world. This illustration is very dear to me as artwork and as a representation of how their influence expands day to day and generation to generation.
